Carolina Seasons

Our red clay and tall pines make storm season worth watching

York and Lancaster counties on the South Carolina side, and north Mecklenburg across the line, carry some of the heaviest mature canopy in the region. Willow oaks, white oaks, loblolly pines, red maples, and sweetgums routinely stand seventy to a hundred feet tall, and a great many of them lean right over rooftops.

The trouble is the ground they grow in. Carolina red clay holds water, and when it saturates through a wet stretch, shallow-rooted loblolly pines lose their grip and topple in the wind. Summer thunderstorms roll through hard, hurricane remnants sweep surprisingly far inland (Helene in 2024 reminded the whole Carolinas just how far), and the occasional winter ice event snaps limbs under the weight.

That is why we tell neighbors to have their trees looked at before the weather turns. A leaning pine or a heavy limb over the bedroom is far cheaper to handle on a calm afternoon than at midnight in a downpour.

Signs it is time for a look

  • A tree leaning more than it used to, especially a pine after a rainy week.

  • Big dead limbs or bare branches hanging over the roof, deck, or driveway.

  • Cracks in the trunk or a split fork where two heavy stems meet.

  • Mushrooms or soft, hollow spots at the base, a sign of root or trunk rot.

  • Soil heaving or lifting on one side of the trunk after a storm.

How It Works

Simple, start to finish

No high-pressure sales, no surprises on the bill. Here is how a job goes with us.

1

Free on-site estimate

We come out, walk the property with you, and give you a clear written price. If a tree can be saved instead of removed, we will tell you honestly.

2

Careful, planned work

We rope down and lower limbs in sections near the house, protect your lawn and beds, and keep the crew tidy and respectful the whole time.

3

Cleanup and haul-away

We chip the brush, haul off the wood, and rake up after ourselves so the only thing you notice is the tree is gone and the yard looks cared for.

Good Questions

Answers before you call

Most residential removals in this area land somewhere between $450 and $2,500, and large pines or oaks close to the house can run higher. Price depends on the tree's height, its lean, how close it is to the roof or power lines, and how much cleanup is involved. We always give you a firm written estimate for free before any work starts.
Yes. We serve the South Carolina side (Fort Mill, Tega Cay, Rock Hill, Indian Land, Lake Wylie) and cross into North Carolina for Huntersville and the Lake Norman area. The Catawba River corridor ties the whole service area together and we run it every day, fully covered in both states.
Get everyone to a safe spot away from the damage and any downed lines, then call us. We will talk you through it, get out to secure the hazard, and document the damage with photos so it is easy to file with your insurance. We handle storm work all season and are set up to move quickly when it counts.
Always, unless you ask us to leave the wood for firewood. Standard cleanup includes chipping the brush, hauling off the logs, and raking the area so your yard is left tidy. Just let us know if you want the rounds cut to firewood length and stacked instead.
